A study by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has found that Jamaica will need approximately 49,000 teachers, 12,000 doctors and 37,000 nurses by the year 2040. The study is the second in a series entitled “The future of work in Latin America and the Caribbean”. The study projects the number of teachers, doctors and nurses that the countries of the region will need in the coming years. It found that employment had grown considerably in the last four decades in the region, particularly jobs in education and health were good quality jobs, especially for women.
