The Cayman Islands Department of Planning has given approval to Health City Cayman Islands for the planned US$100 million medical campus and hospital expansion at Camana Bay. The aim is to reduce the number of local citizens traveling off island to receive care.
The state-of-the-art Camana Bay medical campus will become the first hospital in the region to offer bone marrow transplantation and CAR-T Cell therapy. The advanced oncology department will include medical oncology, hemato-oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology with a medical linear accelerator (LINAC).
Health City has already established a footprint in Camana Bay with the opening of a clinic, and the hospital could be open by 2023.
Rival Aster Cayman Medicity still waits detailed planning approval. Aster wants the Cayman Islands to become the destination for healthcare in the region.
The Cayman Islands is moving to phase four of its reopening plan. Fully vaccinated travellers who are verified have been allowed to enter without quarantine from November 20. With a high percentage of the population now vaccinated, the government is keen to relax the current restrictions and a return to normal for travel.
