Cayman: The Wellness Capital of the Caribbean

Repost-By Cayman Compass contributor Melissa Quinn -13 April 2026

The Cayman Islands has become the ultimate wellness destination within the Caribbean, offering access to cutting-edge technologies, luxurious treatments, refined services and the newest global health trends. With nearly 200 businesses operating across the Islands within the health, fitness and wellness sector, Cayman is something of an anomaly.

Cayman has more gyms, more studios, more wellness clubs, more clinics and more health professionals per capita than many of the most affluent cities in the most affluent countries. We have one of the highest concentrations of wellness businesses per person in the world, exceeding cities such as New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Dubai and Miami, with only Monaco offering comparable levels of provision. On a global stage, this makes Cayman a rarity, and we find ourselves living within what may be one of the most developed luxury wellness markets for a population of this size anywhere in the world.

There are several reasons why Cayman has such a high number of wellness services and why investors continue to feel confident opening businesses within this sector. One of the most significant factors is that Cayman has one of the highest GDP-per-capita levels in the Caribbean, driven largely by financial services, law and tourism.

Populations that work long hours in high-pressure professions, while also having access to disposable income, tend to spend more on rest, recovery and personal well-being. When this is combined with a strong luxury tourism infrastructure, a large expatriate demographic and a favourable tax environment, the result is a business climate that naturally attracts investment in the wellness industry.

There are also broader global trends driving professionals to spend more on their health and regulation. Wellness is expanding globally because modern lifestyles create more stress, ageing populations spend more on health, and higher incomes allow people to pay for services focused on prevention, recovery and quality of life.

Our working generation is reporting higher levels of stress than previous generations, due to longer working hours, increased screen time, constant notifications and an always-on work culture – all factors linked to reduced sleep, nervous system dysregulation and rising concerns around anxiety and mental health. We are also living in the age of information, giving people the ability to research ways to improve their well-being and, here in Cayman, to access some of the latest developments in health, longevity, recovery, rejuvenation and relaxation.

With so many wellness options available on island, the question becomes: How do you know what is right for you, and where should you begin? Cayman may be one of the most wellness-focused places in the world, but more choice does not always mean more understanding. In future columns, I will explore the people, the practices and the science behind the industry, helping you navigate the ever-growing world of health and well-being here in Cayman.
